During the first semester, we hosted almost 1, guests, at one time or another, in our home for lunch, dinner or brunch. We are the beneficiary of decades of love and support.

We have a body of faculty and staff who not only love this institution but who also work hard for its students. And we have a student body that can give you joy in so many ways — as achievers, as performers, as athletes, as adult learners returning to school.

And not least, as good people joining other good people on a journey of learning, our community upholds a tradition of excellence.

I learned a lot about this tradition at Homecoming this year as our classes of, and returned. From these passionate alumni, I heard story after story of how Friends University had changed their lives and put them on a good track for their careers.

But most of all, I heard from them story after story of the people who made Friends University what it was, and what it is today. Underneath every anecdote and tale was a consistent feature: a person who cared, sometimes more than was expected, about a student.

We care about people here. No, let me say it more specifically and accurately: we love people here.
